QRP CW Radios
Decisions, Decision,
Which radio will win after all the derision?
Radios not to scale
News Flash: A new kit on the block.
I chose the The QRP Labs QMX+ is the newest kit sensation and not the last from a long time trusted kit designer and builder. It has a LOT of bang for the buck at $211 built with a metal case with new features to come. CW, Digital, Future SSB, 12 bands, Space inside to add a Battery, Tuner, Amplified speaker. It was a hard deal to refuse. I still like the LNR MTR-3B but as entry level radio the QMX+ offers a lot except a smaller size and simpler circuitry. I could have gotten a QCX+ for a more than half the price, and it would do CW fine, but for a bit more a bit more than double the price of a not bad price, I may possibly have access to SSB in the future for emergency use if it is ever needed.

Thoughts: First I need to learn Morse code and be willing to have random QSO's. The kits also have more parts than I can assemble and need test equipment to balance circuits. I also note that some of the built radios are very close to the price of some kits. Even though I probably will not build a kit there are ones that could become part of my kit. I have assembled a few mobile Ham radio items.
Below are low power radios from a QRP radio comparison spreadsheet I made. Included below are some of them. Once I learn code and can practice QSO's online it might be tempting to get an affordable one like the CW only $188.00 SW-3B - 5W or the $399 when on sale All mode Xiegu G90 - 20W. These would be a fun reward porch/yard radio after all the work it took to learn Morse code. I know of no Friends that do CW although some do other data modes that require a PC. I certainly do not need a CW only radio but dreaming keeps a person motivated. It would be motivational to be able to use my new CW skills when mobile, even if it is just on the porch or our permanent backyard campsite(Yes, we have one).

Others I had though, but decided not.
The price is mitigated over time but the less expensive circuitry can not.

A good starter radio with some comprises to keep the price down but yet has dial VFO for easy frequency selection. The dial VFO if its main good feature users like over the MTR radios.
Only has 1 CW memory.
3 Bands 40m, 30m, 20m bands.
Has a dial VFO to input frequencies.
Weak front end and filtering.
From China so using warranty because of shipping is unrealistic to use.
