Arborist Skills of Operations
Safety First:
Inspect equipment regularly: Ensure the throw line, throw bag, and all associated hardware meet arboreal standards and are in good condition before each use.
Proper technique: Adhere to established, arborist approved throwing and retrieving techniques to minimize the risk of injury or equipment damage.
Clear work area: Ensure the area around the throw and landing zones is clear of obstructions, personnel, and equipment.
Protective gear: Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including gloves, eye protection, when using throw lines.
Efficiency and Effectiveness:
Accurate throws: Practice and develop proficiency in throwing the line to the desired target with minimal effort.
Efficient retrieval: Utilize techniques that allow for quick and safe retrieval of the throw line, to avoid line loss.
Communication: Maintain clear and open communication with ground crew members throughout the throwing process.
Environmental Considerations:
Minimize tree damage: Exercise extreme caution when using throw lines to avoid bark stripping, limb damage, or cavity formation.
Protect wildlife: Be aware of nesting birds and other wildlife. Avoid throwing lines in areas that may disturb or harm wildlife.
Prevent soil erosion: Minimize disturbance to the soil around the tree's base.
Proper disposal: Dispose of broken or damaged throw line equipment according to local environmental regulations.
Leaver no trace. Leave nothing behind, but a good time.
Training and Compliance:
All arborists using throw lines must use good practices and approved training on proper techniques, safety procedures, and environmental considerations.
This code of conduct will be reviewed before arboreal activities to ensure it aligns with current industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
